Alec had several interesting hobbies. Singing started early in his life with church choirs filling much of his need. In 1962, he acted and sang the lead part of Curly in the Pfizer production of OKLAHOMA.
During the 1950's Alec and his father were a close knit team racing their Starboat sailboat, Thistle, in which they gathered a number of awards. In 1962 with his relocation to Long Island, Alec moved up to a large Triton cruising/racing sailboat. In 1975 along with his son, Alexander (Skip) and his godson, Craig Olsen, as crew members, Alec won the National Triton Championship which was held on Long Island Sound. He later moved to a larger trawler boat in which he and his wife, Natalie cruised many of the Long Island ports as well as the New England coastline for 25 years.
In the late 1990's Alec found a desire to write short stories and poems, some of which appeared in the local papers. One of his poems was selected by the International Library of Poetry and published in their annual book of poems from around the world. Some of his short stories had a religious theme to them indicating a firm religious background.
