Andrew Hynes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Andrew lived a life of commitment, service, and love.
After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army for two years, Andrew embarked on a remarkable career as a New York City Fireman. For over 20 years, he protected and served his community, including a notable tenure in Coney Island. From 1991 to 1998, he served as the Fire Safety Director at the World Trade Center, and from 1999 to 2005, at Rockefeller Center, where his leadership and dedication were truly appreciated.
Andrew was predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life full of adventure and joy. Their love for one another was a cornerstone of Andrew’s life.
He was the devoted father of Laura (Robert) Franco and Brian (Jaimie), and the proud grandfather of Joseph, Andrew, Colin, Aidan, Kieran, Riley, and Sofia. Andrew’s family was his greatest treasure, and he was immensely proud of each of them.
Andrew had a passion for life and enjoyed a wide array of hobbies. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, and pickleball enthusiast, particularly in his later years. He loved to stay active, whether walking, hiking, or spending time with Nancy, who was always by his side. The two of them traveled the world, creating cherished memories together, with skiing being a special favorite.
In his quieter moments, Andrew enjoyed betting on the horses and rooting for the Giants and Rangers. His sense of humor, warmth, and love of life touched everyone he met.
