Anthony “Tony” Paul Banta, 84, of Glen Cove, NY, formerly Oceanside, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, with loving family members by his side.
Tony was raised in Astoria, NY and was one of four children born to William and Frances Banta. Tony attended Parochial schools and eventually enrolled in evening classes at St. John’s University to study accounting while working full time at Ogden Allied Services. He retired in 2001 from Ogden/ABM after 35+ years of service.
Tony enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1961 after receiving a Good Conduct Medal. In addition, he was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus via St. Anthony’s RC Church in Oceanside, NY.
Tony faithfully attended Sunday mass at the Church of St. Rocco in Glen Cove, NY for the past 10 years. Previously, he attended St. Anthony’s RC Church in Oceanside, NY.
After meeting at Eastover Resort in the Poconos, he met the love of his life, Vincentina, “Vinnie”, who became his bride in 1965. Twelve years later their first son, William, was born. Their family grew as Tony and Vinnie welcomed Frank, two years later, and then their only daughter, Tina two years after Frank.
Tony is survived by his wife, Vinnie of 58 years, his son William Banta and his wife Tara of Massapequa, his son Frank Banta and his wife Jennifer of Port Washington, his daughter Tina Ward and her husband Brian of Sea Cliff as well as his 6 grandchildren, Frankie, Antonia, Valentina, Nina, Annabella & Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his sister and two brothers: Frances Fournier, William Banta and Jack Banta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Church of St. Rocco, 18 Third St., Glen Cove, NY 11542.
Visitation on Monday, January 15, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM & 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Head, NY 11545.
Funeral Mass on Tuesday, January 16, at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Rocco, Glen Cove, NY.
Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
