Barbara J Riss

RISS - Barbara Ann (nee Johnson), 90, of Greenvale, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on May 19, 2021, while playing Beethoven's Opus 14 No. 2 at a piano recital with The Association of Piano Teachers of Long Island (APTLI). Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Walter Riss. She is survived by her loving children, Richard (Kathryn), Elizabeth (Brian) LaRose, Bayly Tyler (Mary O'Toole), and Charley (Sandey Wolfe). She is the cherished grandmother of Christopher, Timothy, and Jonathon LaRose. Beloved great grandmother to Isabelle Ann and Ava Marie LaRose. Other survivors include her dear brother, Wells Johnson (Eunice Cox), and her dear sister Karin (the late Hellmut) Herdey and many loved nieces and nephews and their families. Also survived by her dear friend Ron Griggs of Berlin Connecticut. Barbara was born and raised in Connecticut. She was a proud alumna of UCONN graduating with a BS in Biology. She was an avid Red Sox fan! She settled on Long Island where she raised her family and was a piano teacher for many years.
Visitation to be held at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave, Glen Head, NY, Thursday May 27 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 28 at 10 AM at the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff, 63 Downing Ave, Sea Cliff NY. Interment at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd, Calverton NY.
