Field - Curtis M., passed from this life on June 28, 2019, with his daughters close at his side. Beloved husband of the late Diane, devoted father to Valerie M. Field and Beverly (Barry) Fielding. Cherished grandfather of Lily, Finn and Andrew Fielding, and loving brother-in-law to Cynthia Monaco.
Born in New York on September 6, 1932, Curt spent his youth building forts in the Bayside woods, learning to play the piano, and growing his passion for cars and time pieces. Later, he attended Grinnell College where he earned a BA in Journalism. In 1954, during the Korean Conflict, Curtis joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served as a pilot until he was honorably discharged as Captain in 1973.
Curt loved people and had a way with words. His early postcollegiate life found him working in sales, for first Similac, and then Dun and Bradstreet. Curt finally heeded the call to teach in the early 70's, went back to school to earn a Masters in Education from Hofstra University, and spent the bulk of his professional life inspiring young minds to question and learn. A teacher in the Northport-East Northport school district, Curt was an outdoor education pioneer, famous for his "pollution trips." Never one to be idle, Curt honored his love of a sales by also becoming an impassioned Real Estate Broker in Syosset.
Curt was a brother of the fraternal order of the Matinecock Lodge in Oyster Bay who reveled in serving up Lieberkasen at the annual Oyster Fest Beer Garden. He was also a docent at The Cradle of Aviation Museum, where he most often could be found instructing future pilots on the flight simulators. Curt loved to travel, sharing a lifetime of rugged and luxury adventures with his family and friends. He was a genuine renaissance man, a proud patriot, a dedicated environmentalist, an accomplished pianist, a clock smith, a dog lover and a diehard Yankees fan. He will be remembered with love by the many people whose lives he touched.
