Daniel 'Bud' Hohenrath

November 15, 1920 — January 22, 2019

Daniel (Bud) Hohenrath passed away at the age of 98 on January, 22, 2019.  He was born to Daniel and Ethyle (Ziegler) in New York City on November, 15, 1920.   He spent most of his life in Glen Head living with his wife, Agnes, to whom he was married for close to seventy-three years.  Bud was a proud veteran of WWII.  He fought with the U.S. Army in the 104 th Infantry Division (The Timberwolves).  They landed in France and fought their way through Holland and into Germany.  The Timberwolves were in constant combat (nearly 200 days) - longer than any other division during the war.  Bud owned and operated a butcher shop, The Glen Head Market, for nearly fifty years.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff and the Golden Ring Club of Glen Head as well as the American Legion and the Rotary Club.  He spent the last four years of his life at the Regency, an Assisted Living facility, in Glen Cove.  He was devoted to family and friends alike and thoroughly enjoyed entertaining others.  He was a "song and dance" man as well as an enthusiastic sports fan (Let's Go Mets!).  He especially enjoyed playing golf.  Bud will be remembered by all who knew him for his gentle and happy manner and his kind, loving spirit.  He truly inspired everyone with his love of life and ever ready smile.  Bud is pre-deceased by his wife, Agnes, and brothers, William and Richard.  He is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Rieder and Diane Wolfe, and sons-in-law, Eric Rieder and John Squires.  Bud will always remain the adored grandfather of Daniel (Macy) Rieder, Kristine Rieder Morrow (Tom C.), Jane Rieder Leone (Tommy), Matthew Wolfe, and Timothy Wolfe and the great-grandfather of Robert and Kurt Morrow, Robert, Alice, and Mary Leone.  His extended family also includes multiple well- loved nieces and nephews.
