January 12, 2004 — September 4, 2021

Donald T. Rave, Sr. Long time Locust Valley attorney, retired insurance executive, and U.S. Marine Corps Captain Donald T. Rave, Sr. passed away peacefully on September 4, 2021, at the Glen Cove Hospital. He was 92. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia, on her 75th birthday, January 12, 2004. He is survived by his sister, Carol Moor, formerly of Sound Beach and his sons, Donald, Jr. (Christy) of Huntington Bay, Richard (Maureen) of Locust Valley, Michael of Westbury and Wilmington, VT, and Paul (Kaley) of Locust Valley, as well as grandchildren Tracy (Andrew), Karen (Matt), Donald III (Liz), Travis (Jacki), Elizabeth (Noah), Tyler, Kimmy, Peyton, and Tanner, and great grandchildren Ryan, Erin, Harry, Maxwell, and Samuel. After graduating from Queens College in 1950, Don, Sr. entered the life insurance business with the Equitable Life Assurance Society. After a short interruption for military service with the United States Marine Corps, he studied law at the New York University School of Law, graduating in 1956. He then joined Mutual of New York as a consulting attorney and was one of the founders of its advanced underwriting division, eventually rising to the position of President of MONY America. He retired in 1986 and, as a second career, founded the Law Offices of Donald T. Rave in Locust Valley, NY, where he specialized in estate planning and eventually was joined by his son Donald, Jr. in 1995. A longtime resident of the Village of Muttontown, Don Sr. served as the Chairman of the Site and Architectural Review Board. Even at the age of 92, he drove to the office every day, never missing an opportunity to consult with clients and have lunch. Most important to him was his loving family, which, due to generational overlaps, knew him as Dad, Grandpa Red, and Papa. A Celebration of his Life will take place at 2PM on Saturday September 11, 2021 at 49 Taylor Road Huntington Bay NY 11743. All friends who are vaccinated are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Critical Care Unit of the Glen Cove Hospital. For more information, please visit www.whitting.com.
