Edward Hojnowski

October 2, 1933 — December 22, 2022

Edward ”Ed” Joseph Hojnowski, life-long resident of Long Island, died peacefully on December 22, 2022 at the age of 89 after a long happy life. Ed is survived by his 3 loving daughters, Brenda Donnelly, Laura Hoffman and Amy Hojnowski, his five grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as his sister Wilma Hanson, his two stepchildren Richard Robinson and Nancy Robinson, and his 12 nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Hojnowski, his parents Alexander & Stanislawa, his siblings Lottie Hojnowski, Peter Hojnowski, Paul Hojnowski, Carl Hojnowski, Stanley Hojnowski, Alice Kupcewicz and Agnes Garbowski.

Ed was born October 2, 1933 at home in Glen Head, NY, the youngest of nine. Originally nicknamed “The Duke” for being the youngest son, the name stuck throughout life for his love of John Wayne westerns. Notoriously proud of his Polish heritage, Ed was a devoted fan of polka music and polish foods especially his favorite dish of fresh kielbasa and homemade golumpki.

After graduating from Roslyn High School in 1952, Ed enlisted in the United States Army until his discharge in 1955, having risen to the rank of Sergeant. Shortly after, he met his beloved Patricia at a mutual friend’s wedding where they danced the night away. After marriage they settled in Hicksville to start a family and a long life together. They were married 40 years until Patricia’s death in 2005.

Ed worked for the Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) for 42 years as an overhead lineman and foreman. A proud member of IBEW Local 25, he maintained electrical service to the island through even the worst winter storms.

Ed never missed an opportunity to enjoy himself in the company of friends and family, and he was most happy at the family hunting cabin in the Catskills where he proudly bagged many deer and turkey. He was a devoted parishioner of over 50 years at St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church in Hicksville. He will be greatly missed by all for his hospitality, humor and willingness to help others in their moment of need.
