Kolk, Betty - Elizabeth (Betty) Kolk Tucker died peacefully in Miami, FL on December 14, 2010 following a long illness. She was 88. Mrs. Tucker was born in Nashville TN, the daughter of Ralph and Elizabeth Stone and attended school in Nashville and Stamford CT and the University of Tennessee. In 1942 she married the late Franklin W. Kolk of Sea Cliff, NY and lived there for many years. An avid sailor, she crewed for her husband in one design races and together they cruised as far afield as the Dalmatian coast. She was part of the winning crew of the SYCE Cup, the women's sailing championship of Long Island Sound and placed second in the Adams Cup, the national women' sailing championship in 1956. She was a member of the Sea Cliff Yacht Club and the Hempstead Harbour Club. She was a volunteer with the Women's Auxiliary of The Community Hospital at Glen Cove (North Shore Hospital, Glen Cove) and was President and served on the Board of the Glen Cove/ Oyster Bay Visiting Nurse Association. A member of the Sea Cliff Methodist Church, she was on the Mutual Concerns Committee and was a contributor to the Sea Cliff Village Museum.
After the death of her husband, she married the late Ronald Tucker and moved with him to The Meadows in Sarasota FL. She cruised extensively with her second husband and was a member of the Sarasota Yacht Club and The Power Squadron. She belonged to St. James Methodist Church and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
She loved her family and was dedicated to service to her community. She loved to travel, to entertain, to sail and garden, play bridge and golf.
She is survived by her sister Jean Testa of Tavernas, FL, three daughters, Jean Wilson of Miami, Sally Sotirovich and Barbara Kolk, both of Glenwood Landing, NY, two granddaughters, Mary Hackenberg of Charlotte NC and Katherine Cullison of Honolulu, HI, three great grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews and sister in law Jinna Kolk Pedulla of Sea Cliff and sons in law Paul Wilson and David Sotirovich.
A service in Sea Cliff, NY celebrating her life will be announced later. Burial will be in East Hillside Cemetery, Glen Head, NY.
