Evelyn Stimola

Evelyn A. Stimola died at Glen Cove Hospital on March 27th, surrounded by her family.
She was 91 years old
Evelyn was born in Laredo Texas on February 16th, 1921.
She was the only child of Lida and Frederick MacKay and was raised in Portland, ME,
where she met her husband Joseph N. Stimola Sr. who was serving in the Navy.
In the 1930's she was known in Portland as a child star and continued her music and dance into her teen years. In addition to her performances she was captain of her basketball team, cheerleader, Glee Club and field hockey team. All those interests carried over to her adult life and instilled in her children.
She was married to Joseph Stimola Sr. for 58 years and a resident of Locust Valley for over 50 years. They were both involved in their community and were the recipient of the "Republican Couple of the Year" in 1974.
Evelyn was a straightforward lady, with a wonderful wit and humor who could be counted on to say what she thought, and her advice was always worth listening to. She was the matriarch of a large family over which she presided with loyalty, caring and love. The large family gatherings for various birthdays and holidays were the highlights for many family members. She is the loving mother of Sharon (Roger), Joanna, Joe Jr. (Nancy), Maureen (Peter), Nick, Greg & Paul. Dear grandmother of Tammy, Eileen, Leigh, Sara, Margery, Lindsey, James, George, Mat, Lauren, Maureen, T.J., Graham, Michala, Linden and Penelope and great -grandmother of Nicholas, Andrew, Carly, Daniel, Theo, Alexis, Tate, Madison and Arya Evelyn.
Evelyn's family wishes to express its gratitude to the wonderful nurses and staff at the Glen Cove Hospital and particularly the compassion and unparalleled care from Dr. Michael Deangelis.
Visiting hours will be Friday, March 30th, from 2-4 and 7-9pm Whitting Funeral Home, 300 glen Cove Ave. Glen Head. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 31st at the Reformed Church of Locust Valley, Ryefield Road, Locust Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joseph Stimola Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, Locust Valley Rotary Club, PO Box 293, Locust Valley, NY 11560 and the Reform Church of Locust Valley, 115 Ryefield Road in honor of Evelyn Stimola.
