Florence Holden, known to her friends and family as Pat, died peacefully in the comfort of her home in Sea Cliff on December 28 with her loving sons, Gregory and Stephen, at her side. She is survived by her two sons, daughter-in-law Diane, and three grandchildren, Tyler, Ricky, and Brian.
Pat was born in Hollywood, California as the only child of Lawrence and Harriet Peterson. She was a graduate of UCLA, and a proud member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. After graduation, she moved to New York to pursue a career in advertising and, there, met and married New York City native Richard J. Holden, a U.S. Army veteran and sales professional, who passed away in 1978.
Pat called Sea Cliff home for the past 45 years, and was well known in the community for her volunteer work at the St. Boniface School cafeteria, library and Mothers' Club. She was also an active member of the Glenwood Landing Women's Club planning and hosting ever popular mystery dinners at local restaurants. For many years, Pat worked for the Roslyn School District as a teacher's aide.
She enjoyed hosting bridge and Tripoley card games, and dinner parties with her many friends. Pat loved her home and garden, walks in Sea Cliff and time at the beach. She also enjoyed traveling in North America and overseas, especially with her son, Stephen.
Most of all, she loved being with her family and preparing for Christmas, her favorite holiday. This year, the family sang Christmas carols at her bedside.
Pat will be remembered for her ever present optimism, practical advice, lasting friendships and devotion to her family. There will be a Funeral Mass at St Boniface Martyr Church in Sea Cliff on Jan 2 at 10:30 AM, and reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the New York City Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
