Humirlanda Orellana

Margarita (Mila) Humirlanda Orellana of Glenwood Landing, NY, formerly of Jersey City, NJ passed away on Sunday June 12th 2022; one day after her 95th birthday, in the comfort of her home surrounded by love and family. Visitations will be at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave, Glen Head, NY on Saturday June 18th 2022 from 3pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm with a memorial service at 8pm. We kindly ask those attending to please wear a mask and social distance when possible. Mila was born in Santiago, Chile on June 11th, 1927. She received her Registered Nurse degree in 1950 and went on to earn a master degree in nursing from Universidad de Chile. She worked for Hospital San Juan de Dios until 1968. Upon migrating to the United States, she worked at Pollak Hospital then retiring from Jersey City Medical Center in in 1996 at the age of 69. She enjoyed chatting with loved ones in Chile on the phone, cross stitching, word search puzzles, spending time with friends and family. She was an avid reader and ferocious daily reader of the New York Times. She absolutely loved anything chocolate! Donor to Habitat for Humanity, Smile Train and the Humane Society. Beloved mother to daughters Irene Alejandra Schneider, Mariela Orellana-Nemanic, and Valery Margarita Orellana. Loving grandmother of Samantha, Daniel, Karla and Katarina, step grandmother to Giancarlo and step Greatgrandmother to Amelia. She was predeceased by her beloved husband René, her brother Raúl and her parents María and Nazario.
