James Patrick Corcoran, 78, of Glen Cove, NY, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2025.
James was born in Jackson Heights, New York, and later moved with his family to Glen Cove, where he spent much of his life. A proud graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Glen Cove, James went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years, including a distinguished service overseas in Germany. After his time in the military, he earned a Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University.
James had a deep love for reading, homecooked meals, and German wine, which reminded him of his years spent in Europe. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as listening to Christmas music and taking long walks. He had an undeniable affection for all animals, and his compassion and kindness touched everyone who knew him.
A long-time member of the Glen Cove Republican Club, James was an active participant in his community, always dedicated to causes close to his heart. His sense of humor, generosity, and gentle spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
James is survived by his loving siblings, Thomas, Rosemary (Anthony) Mirasola, and Gregory (the late Judith), and was a proud uncle to Jennifer, Cristen, and Patrick. His family will carry on his legacy of devotion, compassion, and loyalty.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6th, from 3-7 PM at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Head, NY 11545. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 7th, at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, followed by burial at Calverton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’s name to the American Cancer Society.
May he rest in peace.
