Joan Sefton Clarke of Locust Valley, NY formerly of Glen Head, NY died on January 19
th
at the age of 75 after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
For thirty-nine years she taught in the Early Childhood Department of the Green Vale School in Old Brookville, NY. Previous to her time at Green Vale she had been a teacher at Friends Academy in Locust Valley, and at a Head Start School in Amityville, NY. She was a dedicated teacher of young children.
Joan was in the first graduating class from North Shore High School and went on to attend the Duschesne Resident School in NYC. She is also a graduate with honors from the State University of New York in Old Westbury.
Joan is the daughter of the late John Francis Clarke and Joan Sefton Clarke. She is predeceased by her brother, Robert Clarke. She is survived by her brother John of Evergreen, Colorado, six nieces and nephews and many loving relatives and friends.
Many thanks go to the staff of the Emerge (formerly Marquis) Rehabilitation Center in Glen Cove for the special care they provided Joan.
Visiting hours will be on March 14
th
at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave. Glen Head from 2-4 pm and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on March 15
th
at St. Patrick âs Roman Catholic Church in Glen Cove at 10:00 a.m. followed by the interment of ashes at the Locust Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 40 Marcus Ave. Melville, NY 11747 would be appreciated.
