John B. Suttie

October 10, 1933 — October 7, 2024

John B. Suttie, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on October 7th, 2024.


Born in 1933 Suttie graduated from Glen Cove High School and served his country in the Army during the Korean War, exemplifying courage and commitment that would define his character throughout his life.


After his military service he married his wife Beverly and started a family, his daughter, Lynn. He worked for the Telephone Company and soon joined the Locust Valley Fire Department. He was an active member of the Hook and Ladder Co. #1 for 67 years serving in many officer positions within the company including Captain and also in many officer positions within the Department including Chief of the Locust Valley Fire Department. He served as past President and Trustee of the Locust Valley Firemans' Benevolent Association, Past President of the 5th Battalion Chiefs Organization, former Delegate to the 5th Battalion District, former Delegate to the North Shore Fire Council, member of the Fire Chiefs Council of Nassau County, Nassau County Firemans' Association and the Firemans' Association of the State of New York. He was also a member of the Departments Softball Team and Bowling Team, enjoying the camaraderie as much as the sports, but he will always be remembered as the guy who welcomed any new members into the fold and maintained relationships with old members for years to come. Always a mentor and a friend.


After his retirement he enjoyed many trips with his family whether it was cruising, camping, visiting Maine or going to Las Vegas where he enjoyed trying his luck at the slot machines. These travels brought him great joy and strengthened the bonds with his loved ones.


He will be remembered for his warm heart, smiles, laughter and unwavering love for his family and friends. He is predeceased by his devoted wife Beverly, He is survived by his loving daughter, Lynn and son-in-law Warren Ramskill and many nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Locust Valley Fire Department in his honor, He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
