John Ernst Scholl

John Scholl was born in Floral Park and grew up in Queens Village. He proudly graduated from Jamaica High and went on to serve in the Army and in the Army National Guard. He spent most of his career at Cook and Krupa, where he was a senior partner. John loved being on the water. He was an avid fisherman and had many stories about spear fishing in Montauk, Block Island, and Cape Cod when he was younger. He was also a boater—both power and sail. He belonged to the Sea Cliff Yacht Club and would go on raft-ups and cruises with other members to destinations throughout Long Island Sound, Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, the Cape, and Maine. In the off-season, John would participate in skeet shooting at the club—this followed in the footsteps of his interest in hunting, which he did upstate and in Vermont and New Hampshire. John loved to golf. He played many of the courses on Long Island, but also played around the world. If he wasn’t on the golf course, he was watching a tournament on TV. John belonged to a tennis club on Tulip Avenue in Floral Park before it dissolved and was on several bowling leagues. He was also a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where he participated in the men’s club. John married his wife, Helene, and they had one daughter, Minna (William). He was devoted to his family and adored his two granddaughters, Penelope, and Tallulah—seeing them always put a smile on his face. He also adored the late family dog, Sidewinder. In addition to his wife, daughter, and granddaughters, John leaves behind his brothers-in-law, Edward, and William (Monica); nieces, Summers and Pilar; and nephews, Christopher, Scott, and Robert. He was predeceased by his parents, John P. and Doris, as well as his younger brother Fred. Visitation Wednesday, May 11 from 5PM to 9PM at Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head, NY. Service Wednesday, May 11 at 7 PM at Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head, NY. Private cremation to follow.
