Jorge J. Alvarez

Alvarez, Jorge J. (George), 77, of Glen Cove, NY passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on October 8, 2021. Jorge was born in O'Grove, Galicia, Spain but lived in New York since 1968. Anyone who knew Jorge knew that he was a beacon of pure light, humility, and selfless love. He loved his family deeply and was always there in a time of need; without hesitation he would fix the problem and make everything better. He cherished watching his grandson Tyler's soccer games and never missed an FC Barcelona game. Jorge welcomed even strangers with open arms and was always quick to cook them a meal or pour them a glass of wine. He was a semi professional soccer player in Spain as well as a talented singer in his band Echoes de Espana. He served honorably in the Spanish Navy and Merchant Marine where he was a morse code operator. Jorge retired as a Chief Operating Building Engineer for Chase Manhattan Bank where he extended his generosity and expertise to everyone around him. Always the perfectionist, everything he did he did with excellence. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cathy; his five kids Catherine, Jennifer, Michael, Pedro, and Carlos; his 2 grandchildren Tyler and Arielle; his sister Mercedes and his brother Pepe among many other loved family and friends. His wisdom, warmth, honor, and commitment will forever live on in the countless lives he touched.
