Joseph Palmino Allario, 87, of Glen Head, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2023, with family by his side. His beloved wife, Caroline, passed away on August 10, 2021.
Born December 16, 1935, and raised in New York City, Joseph (Joe) was the son of the late Giovanni Ernesto Allario and Pierina Coppo, and brother of Frank Allario (Marguerite) of Newport News, VA. Joe was born in Casorzo, Italy and immigrated to New York at the age of one with his parents. Joe grew up in the neighborhood know as Hell’s Kitchen and he and his brother attended Dom Bosco High School in Patterson, NJ. Joe was a fan of the New York Giants (baseball), Brooklyn Dodgers, and New York Knicks. Joe and his brother spent several summers with their parents in Glastonbury, CT, and in the Catskills (NY) where Joe worked and vacationed at family and friend owned hotel restaurants.
Upon graduation from High School, Joe attended Brooklyn Polytechnical College where he graduated with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He completed his college degree at night when he began working as a production manager for a lithographic and printing company in Manhattan and became a new husband and father.
During a business trip to Detroit, MI in 1960 to Chrysler Missile (former subsidiary of the Chrysler Corporation), Joe arranged a blind date with Caroline Stevens, who was working in the library of Chrysler Missile. Joe and Caroline were married on July 9, 1962, at St. Sebastians Church in Woodside, Queens. Joe and Caroline lived in Astoria, NY where their two sons, John, and Michael, were born. In December 1969, Joe, Caroline, and family moved to Glen Head, NY.
Joe had a career as a Production Foreman at several lithographic and printing companies including Collier Lithography (NYC) and Herst Lithography (NYC). After retiring in 2001, Joe enjoyed dinner, dancing, attending theater shows, and traveling to Europe with Caroline. When home, Joe and Caroline loved to garden, paint and sketch, cross-country ski, and relax at Centre Island Beach in Bayville, NY.
Joe will be especially remembered for his love of and devotion to his wife, Caroline, for over 61 years, whom he cared for during her illness. Many more will remember Joe for his kindness, sense of humor, twinkle in his eye, fedora hats, and love of music, and good food and wine. Joe and Caroline were members of St. Boniface Martyr Church, Sea Cliff, NY and St. Mary's Church in Roslyn, NY.
Joseph is survived by his loving sons, John Allario (Anne) of Boston, MA; Michael Allario (Michelle) and their three daughters, Haleigh, Isabella (Bella), and Nicole Allario, all of Woodstock, GA. Joe is also survived by his three nieces, Charlotte Allario (Joe), Karen O’Brien (Robert-deceased November 17, 2023), Kathy Zawadzki, and their families.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Boniface Martyr Church, 145 Glen Avenue, Sea Cliff, NY. Interment will be at Locust Valley Cemetery, Locust Valley, NY. Calling hours are Friday, December 8, 2023, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Avenue, Glen Head, NY.
