CATAPANO - Kathleen Anne (Nee Burns) passed away on January 15, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. She was born February 13, 1945, to the late Anna and Howard Burns. Growing up in Glenwood Landing, she graduated from North Shore High School in 1962. After gaining her Bachelor's from Skidmore College in 1966, she married Philip Catapano and joined the Peace Corps, traveling to Malawi to teach for two years. Upon her return, she started a family and continued a career in education as a teacher of math and technology at the Green Vale School and then later as a Professor of Education and Technology at Medgar Evers College - CUNY, until her retirement. Throughout her entire life, she was a tough advocate for peace and justice. As a dedicated humanitarian, she donated her labor and love to her church, St. Mary's of Roslyn, SCO - St Christopher-Ottlie services in Glen Cove, and The Fresh Air Fund in New York. In addition to being a doting mother to her three children, she acted as godmother and mentor to many friends and relatives as well as former students. Beloved wife of Philip. Loving mother of Lisa, Matthew and Kathleen. Cherished grandmother to Peppin, Chetty, Jasper and Grace. Devoted sister of the late Marilyn Burns Doyle.
