Sullivan - Marcella of Glen Head, NY passed away peacefully at her home on January 31, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, at the age of 87. She was surrounded by her family, who loved and cherished her to the end. Marcella was born in 1933, the second of four children to Madge (Clancy) of Co. Clare, Ireland, and Charles Jensen of Long Island City. She was raised in Flushing and attended St. Mary's Parish and grammar school, where she met her future husband and the love of her life, John (Jake) Sullivan, in the third grade. She was a proud graduate of Flushing High School, where she was a class officer and the winner of several academic medals, and later worked for many years as a secretary at Union Carbide in New York City. She and Jake moved to Glen Head in 1962 to raise their family. She was a devoted spouse, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a faithful friend. Marcella was also a dedicated parishioner at St. Mary's Roslyn, where she was a daily communicant and active volunteer. She will be remembered for her laughter, her love of music and song, and her kindness and generosity. She was a joy to be near, and we are better for having known her. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jake; her daughter Jeanne Lewis (Scott); her sons Richard (Anne) and Kevin; was pre-deceased by her son Jack and daughter-in-law Meg. Also survived by her grandchildren Kathleen, Deirdre, Aidan, Clare, Nora, and Bridget Lewis; Monica, Marie, and Raymond Sullivan; sister Mary Wybaillie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the US and Ireland. Funeral Mass on Friday February 5th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's, Roslyn. Interment following at Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Flushing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's R.C. Church, Roslyn, NY.
