Margaret M. Garay

Margaret Mary Garay, of Glen Head, NY, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2024 at the age of 79.

Margaret was born to Albert and Nora Testagrossa in beautiful Bay Ridge, Brooklyn in 1944. She was one of 6 amazing children. She attended St. Anselm elementary and St. Brendan's high school, both in Bay Ridge. After graduation from St. Joseph's College in 1965, she embarked on a decades long devotion to education as an early childhood educator, CCD teacher at St. Mary's Church, Sea Cliff softball coach and mentor to young teachers, as well as volunteering at her children's school and scout events, and more. She was one of the first cohorts of teachers for the Head Start preschool program in the early 1960s. She finished her long career as a kindergarten teacher at Portledge School.

Margaret was a loving and devoted wife of 46 years to the late Roger T. Garay. They traveled the world together with family and friends, but most enjoyed time spent at the lake house in Bethlehem, CT and on their boat, the Brigadoon, at The Hempstead Harbour Club.

Beloved mother of Loretta Pisciotta (Rick), Roger L. Garay (Kim), and Amy Solomon (Eric). Loving grandmother to Ricky, Matthew, Charlie, Nora, Casey, Jordan, Dillon and Lauren. Great-grandmother to Jack. Beloved aunt to Sara, Francis, Paul, Thomas, Catherine, Nancy and Diane. Loving sister to Albert Testagrossa, Janet Thomas (Frank) and Paul Testsgrossa (Jackie). Margaret is preceded in death by her brothers Larry and Robert and sister-in-law Terry.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 4th at St. Mary's Church in Roslyn, NY at 10:00am.

Visitation on Sunday March 3rd at Whitting Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.
