Marilyn Bennett Hopkins, 95, formerly of Glen Head, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday December 28, 2022, of natural causes, while residing at Peconic Landing Retirement Community, Greenport, NY. She was the beloved wife and partner of the late James Russell Hopkins; sister to the late Dorothy Bennett Smith; loving mother and prayer warrior for James (Linda), Meryl (David Collins) and Jeffery. Proud grandmother of Russell Hopkins, Jeremy, and Zachary Collins; as well as great-grandmother to Mathew Hopkins, Asher, Charis, Kinsley, and Caden Collins; great-great-grandmother to Ryan and Aiden James Hopkins.
Jim and Marilyn enjoyed God’s creation at the Hempstead Harbor Club in Glen Cove and at Clark Gardens in East Williston, NY where she volunteered using her Master Gardener Degree from Cornell. Marilyn enjoyed teaching as a science teacher at Weber Junior High in Port Washington for many years.
In 1990 the Billy Graham Crusade came to Nassau Veteran’s Coliseum. Jim and Marilyn committed their hearts to Jesus that day.
In 2002 they moved to Peconic Landing where Marilyn became a very valuable resource for organizing, planting, and maintaining the gardens. Jim went to be with Jesus shortly after and Marilyn’s relationship with God comforted her greatly.
One of her favorite songs is “Because He Lives, I Can Face Tomorrow.”
Please join us in celebrating her life Friday evening, January 20, 7-9 PM, with a service at 8 PM at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave, Glen Head, NY, 516-671-0807.
Marilyn asked that donations be made in her honor to the Sea Cliff Gospel Chapel, 162 Sea Cliff Avenue, Sea Cliff, NY 11579.
