Martha Regina Mitschang

Martha Regina Mitschang of Glen Head, New York, passed on. October 8, 2019 at age of 98.  Martha was born to Marie and George of Queens, New York.  She was married to John Mitschang during WWII and after the war, they moved from NYC to Long Island where they raised 3 children.  Martha was a homemaker but, also worked as a secretary and then office coordinator at CW Post Collge Student Union.  She was a vibrant member of her community.  First and foremost, she was a mother but she was also a keen swimmer and yacht club member.  Martha enjoyed Caribbean vacations and world travel.  She loved Broadway musicals and was a talented and creative cook, seamstress,gardener, and an avid reader and card player.  She was known for her great smile, friendliness and enthusiasm for life.  Martha was preceded in death by her husband d of 65 years, John, and her sisters Marie, Madeleine and Catherine.  She is loved by children George, Michael, and Hahnee-Barbara and by her 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  A viewing will be held at Whitting Funeral Home,Glen Head, on October 11, 2019 at 9:00am followed by a Memorial service at St Mary's church, Roslyn, with burial at East Hillside Cemetery, Glen Head afterwards.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant House Charities.
