Mary Patricia MacDougall Pat, as she was known to family and friends, was born on the 20th of October 1932 and passed away on Thursday February 17th, 2022. She grew up in the Bronx with her parents Patrick and Mary Hardiman and her brother Jack. She was very close to her father who died suddenly in 1952 and mourned his loss all her life. She met her husband Douglas at Jones Beach in 1948. He was a WWII combat vet who was going to Hofstra on the GI bill. He told the story that he paid some kid a nickel to go ask her name and they ultimately married in 1953. Together they raised four children. She was devoted to her family and frequently assumed the role of mother and father while her husband worked long hours with the FBI during the cold war with the USSR. During her teenage years she was well known as a great body surfer and loved the beach. She was an avid gardener and had an encyclopedic knowledge of plants and flowers. She did the NY times crossword puzzle every day. She loved and was extremely proud of her seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was very attractive physically, had a kind heart, and a gentle nature. Her loss is devastating.
