Michael Todosow

September 1, 1947 — December 29, 2024

Dr Michael Todosow passed away at the age of 77 on December 29, 2024 after lengthy complications from a stroke the year prior. Born in a displaced persons’ camp in Eschwege Germany on September 1, 1947, he was the only child of Olena and Anatoli Todosow. He spent his childhood in Freemantle, Australia before immigrating to the United States at the age of 12 and settling with his parents in New York. Michael attended Bronx High School of Science, followed by Columbia University’s School of Engineering where he received his BS and MS. In 1972, he met Helen Katherine (Pushchin), and they were married in Sea Cliff on September 7, 1974. The two moved to Boston where they both attended graduate school – he, obtaining his PhD in Nuclear Engineering from MIT and she, a MS in Information Science from Simmons University.

After completing their graduate studies, Michael and Helen returned to New York where they settled in Miller Place where they both began lifelong careers at Brookhaven National Library. In 1980, they completed building what would be their home for 46 years and in 1984, their daughter and only child, Christina, was born.

Michael was exceptionally passionate about his work and was still working full-time as a senior scientist when his stroke occurred in February 2023. He loved classical music and the opera, enjoying years of attending the Metropolitan Opera as a longtime subscriber and sharing that appreciation with his wife and daughter. His greatest passion, however, has always been his family. His devotion, tenderness, and boundless encouragement was continuously shared with his wife, Helen, daughter, Christina, as well as his son-in-law, Adrian Rodzianko and two grandchildren, Sebastian and Sabrina Rodzianko. Michael was sustained by his dedication and enthusiasm for his work and supporting his family in all ways. His sincerity, thoughtfulness, candor, and softness will be missed but always remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Little Hearts International (scroll down for the link).
