It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Ramesh Chandra Raichoudhury, who passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in Glen Cove. Dr. Raichoudhury leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a highly skilled cardiothoracic surgeon, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Asima, with whom he shared a life filled with love, support, and shared memories. He was the cherished father of Rajesh (Karen), Rakesh, and Dr. Ritesh. He was also a proud and devoted grandfather to Sabrina and Ryan, who brought him immense joy.
Dr. Raichoudhury was renowned for his long and fulfilling career. His exceptionally steady hand during heart surgeries saved countless lives. He practiced simultaneously at St. Francis Hospital in the US and at Kalinga Hospital, which he helped found, in Orissa, India leaving a profound impact at these institutions. He was a pillar of strength to his students, friends and family. His wisdom, kindness, and compassion were evident in all his endeavors.
Dr. Raichoudhury never lost touch with his Indian heritage, often reflecting on the values, traditions, and culture that shaped his life. His deep pride in his roots was a cornerstone of his identity, and he instilled those same values of strength, honor, and compassion in his family.
In his passing, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Raichoudhury leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will live on through his family, colleagues, and the many lives he touched throughout his illustrious career. He will be greatly missed but always remembered with love and respect.
