Richard Behrmann, of Glen Cove, NY and Bonita Springs, FL passed away on August 14, 2024. Richard ("Richie") was born on September 23, 1943 and raised by his late parents, Emil and Anita Behrmann, in Glendale, NY. He is survived by his loving children, Kelly (Carey) Hobbs, Timothy (Eileen) Behrmann; five grandchildren, Colin, Claire, Nola, Maeve, and TJ; and partner Patricia ("Patty") Thompson. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen ("Katie") Behrmann, and sisters Marilyn Barber and Betty (Bob) Grundler.
Richie moved from Queens to the North Shore of Long Island during the mid-1980s, settling in Glen Head, to raise his family. He loved nothing more than coaching the kid's sports teams and spending time with Katie and their large group of friends. When not coaching or on numerous vacations with their extended group of friends and family Richie could typically be found at a local golf course or watering hole, holding court, and entertaining both friends and strangers alike with an endless supply of jokes and good-natured stories. His backyard deck tiki bar parties became neighborhood legend. Richie made new friends everywhere he went, he truly loved people, and he had an amazing gift in how he could bring people together. In his later years he traveled the world with Patty, her even getting him to try vegetables and exotic cuisine, surprising everyone. Not surprisingly, he tried his hand at stand-up comedy at various Long Island venues. Each year Richie would take (inexplicably) long and meandering trips up and down the eastern seaboard dropping in on friends and loved ones, making new friends, and sharing his stories - nothing made him happier.
Richard Behrmann graduated from Eastern Military Academy and then New York Institute of Technology before enlisting in the Navy and spending several years in military service. He was deployed to the Mediterranean aboard an Essex class carrier. After his service his professional career spanned both the airline (TWA) and mass transit (MTA ) industries.
