Visitation and Funeral service for immediate family only will be held at The Whitting Funeral Home at 300 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Head, NY - 11545 on Saturday May 9, 2020. Burial will follow at the St. Charles Cemetery at 2015 Wellwood Ave Farmingdale, NY. Robert J. Reynolds, Jr. was born in Queens, New York to Robert J. Reynolds and Alice Coleman on December 27, 1936. Robert went to high school at Forest Hills High School. After graduation, Robert went on to earn his undergraduate degree from College of The Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1957. He later earned his Master of Business Administration in Marketing from NYU. Following his education, Robert served 2-years in the US Army. Last stationed in Fort Dix, NJ, Robert was relieved from active duty on April 7, 1962. During his Service, Robert received an Army Commendation Medal, a Parachute Badge and an Expert Infantryman Badge. Robert worked his entire career at the J.C. Penney Company. He worked for many years in the company's Head Quarters at 1301 Avenue of the Americas in New York City. Later in his career, he followed JCPenney as they relocated their Head Quarters down to Plano, Texas in the late 1980s. He last position with JCPenney was that of senior Merchandise Manager.
Robert was an avid sports fan, a devoted Christian, and a loving husband, dad and grandfather too. He enjoyed time at the beach and on the water boating with his family. He passed his father's love of fishing down to his children to appreciate. Aside from his family, Robert also received great joy from friendships made while he attended college at Holy Cross and while working for the J.C. Penney Company.
Fond memories from those life experiences and the good friends he met along the way remained with Robert until his final day.
Robert J. Reynolds, Jr. is survived by his brother Richard Reynolds, daughter Helen Mucci, son George J. Reynolds, daughter in-laws Margaret Reynolds and Maria Paula Reynolds, granddaughter Olivia Catherine Mucci and her fiancé Michael Watts, and granddaughters Juliana Rose Reynolds and Gia Faith Reynolds. Robert is preceded in death by his wife Catherine V. Reynolds, his son Robert J. Reynolds, III, and his sister in-law Lynn Reynolds. Memorial donations may be made to the Food Bank for New York City at https://www.foodbanknyc.org.
