Robert N. Tabor

Tabor, Robert Novy succumbed to pancreatic cancer peacefully at home, with family by his side, on May 17th. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Amy Lewis Tabor, his children Kory (John) Macy, Scott (Thelma) Tabor and Adam (Allison) Tabor. Pre-deceased by his father-in-law Richard Lewis and sister-in-law Dr. Nancy Lewis. He was pre-deceased by his parents Norman Richard Tabor and Barbara Novy Tabor. Also surviving him are his mother-in-law Harriet Lewis, sister-in-law Tracy Lewis and his brothers Richard (Brenda) Tabor and Roger (Jan) Tabor, 3 grandchildren and many cousins. Bob was a proud member of the Class of 1971 of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy where he met his wife Amy and married her upon her graduation from Connecticut College. He earned his MBA from NYU in 1978. After his service, the couple first settled in Jamaica, NY then moved to Glen Head, Long Island where they lived and raised their children for 43 years. During his lifetime he worked briefly for Johnson Controls and then side-by-side for 17 years with his father-in-law, Richard Lewis at Certified Buying Service which became Certified Fashion Guild. Eventually Bob and Amy opened and operated a franchise store Mail Boxes Etc. in Glen Cove for 20 years where he was a beloved member of the community, before retiring in 2014.
Bob was a avid tennis player and skier. While he never mastered throwing a baseball and certainly couldn't dance, he enjoyed taking his family camping and traveling throughout the years. Nothing was more important to him than his family. Upon retirement, he and Amy spent years traveling throughout the country racking up many miles on their road trips, Viking River cruises in Europe, going to the theater, visiting museums and eating at "Triple D Restaurants". Bob always believed in helping others and being kind. He was a member of the American Legion Post 336 in Glen Head, North Shore Kiwanis in Sea Cliff and was always available to help Amy with all her volunteer work. He was selfless, generous with his time and always ready to help. He shared an infectious smile with everyone, known and unknown. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentleness and honesty. The family hope to plan a celebration of his life this summer. As he was fond of saying and something we would do well to heed: "Remember to stop and smell the roses."
