Roger F. Welden

Roger Welden, 90, passed away on Wednesday September 14th. Roger leaves behind his three daughters Marlene Hill(Keith)Shirley Vetrone, and Kathy Deecken(Robert) , nine grandchildren, Kyle,Erin,Brittany,Jillian,Peter,Blake,Corey, Jared, Haley great-granddaughter Mackenzie. Roger also leaves behind his devoted and beloved partner of 22 years, Janice Deegan

Roger devoted nearly his entire life to public service which began when left high school early to enlist in the U.S. Navy in 1950. He completed his service in 1954 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer Engineman. Roger returned home and continued his life of service by joining the Glen Cove Police Department and was on the force from 1957-1975. Upon his retirement from the GCPD, Roger joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a reservist from 1972-1992. Throughout his life, Roger was also an active volunteer with the Glen Cove Fire Department for 67 years from 1955 until his passing. In 2017, the the City of Glen Cove recognized Roger as the Veterans Day honoree.
