Rudolf Wolff

November 11, 1929 — July 24, 2020

Rudolf Wolff, Sr., formerly of Old Brookville, NY, passed peacefully on July 24, 2020 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Cove, NY. He was born November 11, 1929 in Manhattan, NY to Martin and Rosina Wolff. At the age of 3 months, he returned, with his parents and older sister Anita, to their native country of Germany where he was raised and lived until he was 16 years old. His life was not easy during the war, being so young and helping his mom through the many hardships at the time.
At war's end his parents sent him back to the US as he was a born citizen and all children living overseas in his position were permitted entry if they were under 18. He arrived in NY in 1946 and lived with relatives. Soon enough, he was on his own, living in a boarding house and working at several jobs to support himself. He had to learn the English language along the way as he only spoke German. Not an easy time, but his single mindedness and work ethic carried him on. He married Anne Paulin, of NY in 1948, had four children and moved to Mineola, NY where he started his own engraving business, Allstate Sign and Plaque Corp., from his basement with his wife's help. He grew the business with his brother-in- law, a good friend and later on, his son-in-law, and it became quite successful. Rudy was an extraordinary man. Through the ups and downs of war, a new country, married at 18, raising a family and starting his own business, he was a loving and steadfast example for his children. He had a heart of gold and was an honorable man. He was definitely a force of nature and made quite an impression on family and friends throughout his life. He took pride in his home, tended his beautiful gardens, as he did his family, with great devotion and love. He enjoyed music and laughter, fishing, good food and traveling.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister and wife, Anne who passed in 2006. He is survived by his children. Carole Vanderhyde (Bob), Martin Wolff (Billee), Ruth Fick (Peter) and Rudy Wolff, Jr. (Kathy), nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was always there for them and he will be missed very much.
