Theodore Burger, PE, PhD, age 89 of Glen Head, NY has passed into Eternal Life.
Survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Elaine, children Richard (Donna), Alicia (Landon), and Scott (Kathy), grandchildren Matthew, Kendal, Connor, Olivia, Cole, and Jack, and sister-in-law Florence Burger. Predeceased by his brother Joseph, and sister Gretel.
Ted met the love of his life, Elaine at a CYO dance in Whitestone Queens. They married in 1965 and were together for 58 years.
Ted was an accomplished Civil Engineer with a focus on water pollution control with decades of service to the citizens of Nassau County and Long Island while working for the Nassau County Department of Health from which he retired in 1992. Prior to that, Ted worked for the New York City Department of Health. Prior to that, he taught science and math in the Hewlett Woodmere School District and worked for the Atlantic Richfield Refining Company in Philadelphia as his first job out of college.
Ted earned his Civil Engineering degrees from three schools: bachelors from Manhattan College, masters from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and PhD from The Polytechnic Institute of New York. He taught various Civil Engineering classes at Adelphi University and Manhattan College as an adjunct.
In retirement, Ted was a long-time volunteer with the St. Francis Hospital Helping Hearts program where he lent his advice and counsel to families making their journeys through heart bypass and other treatments as he did in 2001.
The family wishes to thank all the aides, nurses, doctors and other medical staff who helped with his final journey in life. A special thanks to Leala Seudat and her husband Chan for their assistance. Their help combined with the constant care and love of our Mother and the Northwell Hospice team made it possible for Ted to spend his last days at home.
Ted’s legacies are his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and Godchildren. He lived a life of service, courage, and fortitude. He will be missed by all.
