Virginia White Baum died peacefully at home in Sea Cliff surrounded by her family on April 30, 2020, from complications associated with Alzheimer's. She studied art at Pratt Institute and celebrated V-E Day in Times Square as a college student 75 years ago on May 8, 1945.
A long-time resident of Manhasset, Virginia was a certified art and antiques appraiser. For many years she ran the St. Stephen's Antiques Show in Port Washington, NY. She also volunteered in the Altar Guild and choir at St. Stephen's and was a decades-long leader of St. Andrew's-by-the-Sea in Saltaire, Fire Island, where she and her family summered for almost her whole life. She was a Life Member of the Manhasset Art Association, and active in PEO, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Plandome Women's Club. Virginia leaves behind four children: Susan Banks (Larry, late); Victoria Bjorklund (Hank); Christopher Baum (Denise); and Elizabeth Schnelzer (Doug), as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Peter. A funeral by Zoom will be held on May 8, with burial to follow at Locust Valley Cemetery.
