Yvonne J. Haff

Haff, Yvonne Jacobi, 84, on June 25, of Glen Head, New York.

Formerly of Manhasset until her marriage to Carter Haff in 1966, Vonnie was beloved by countless close and lifelong friends and was the rock of her family. She was our family photographer and social coordinator and she was well known for her extensive community involvement and volunteerism. She was a fixture at the election polls, and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. As a lifelong member of the Church of Our Savior Lutheran, Manhasset, she served as a member of the Church Council, Treasurer of the Ruth Circle, and proud member of the KnitWits. A teacher by profession, she graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1961. She began her teaching career at the Silas Wood School in the South Huntington School District, and later served as a substitute teacher for the North Shore School District for many years. A lifelong skier, and avid traveler, Vonnie and Carter were members of the North Shore Ski Club in the late 60’s and 70’s. Their adventurous spirits led them to explore all corners of the globe, from skiing the Swiss Alps to sailing in the BVI. Together they experienced the wonders of Antarctica, Kenya, and the Galapagos Islands. They cruised the Arctic and enjoyed whale watching along the Baja Peninsula. They attended many American Airlines “Grey Eagles” conventions over the years. They spent winters skiing in Windham, NY and summers on Shelter Island.

Vonnie will be sorely missed by all who knew her. We are grateful for her rich life and all that she has given to us.

Vonnie is survived by her husband, Carter, and three children, Richard (Mary Deegan), Christopher (Maura Thoma) and Karin (Dennis Reiner), as well as 9 grandchildren, Grace, Katie, Ellie, Christopher, John, Henry, Sarah, Olivia and Eva.

Predeceased by her younger sister and brother, Jean Jacobi McGurn (Robert) and Kurt Jacobi (Dorothy).

A memorial will be held at Church of Our Savior Lutheran, Manhasset, NY on Friday, August 9, at 11am.
